BAPTISM IS ABOUT BECOMING PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST AND DECLARING THAT JESUS HAS CHANGED YOUR LIFE. IT IS THE NEXT STEP AFTER SALVATION.
QUESTIONS ABOUT BAPTISM?
People often have questions about baptism. Like, "Why should I be baptized?" or "What if I've already been baptized - do I need to be baptized again?". We understand that questions arise. Here are a few of the questions you may have as you consider this next step in your journey...
1. What is baptism?
Baptism is a sacrament that signifies that you have accepted the gift of salvation provided through Jesus' sacrifice. Baptism doesn't save a person; it's a symbol and celebration of salvation as you join with the body of Christ...the Church.
2. Why should I be baptized?
Jesus instructs us in Matthew 28:19-20 to be baptized and set the example in Mark 1:9 by being baptized by John. Obedience to Jesus' commands shows we believe and follow Him. Being baptized is an act of obedience as we join with the Church He established.
3. When should I be baptized?
For anyone who decides to follow Jesus, baptism is the next step. Anyone who commits their life to following Jesus is ready to be baptized. (Acts 8:12)
4. Do you baptize children and infants?
Baptism of children and infants is acceptable in the Church of the Nazarene at the request of the parents, who will give assurance of bringing them up in the way of the Lord.
5. If I've been baptized, do I need to be baptized again?
If you have been baptized in the past, there is no need to be baptized again. Once you have been baptized into the body of Christ, there in never a need to do so again. You are part of the family!
