WE BELIEVE THAT PRAYER IS OUR DIRECT LINE OF COMMUNICATION WITH GOD AND IS A VITAL PART OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM.
WHY IS DAILY PRAYER IMPORTANT?
For followers of, God prayer is the best way to communicate with God. It is our vehicle for daily conversation with the One who created us. The importance of daily prayer cannot be overemphasised. It is so important that it is mentioned over 250 times in scripture.
Think about this...
DAILY PRAYER GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE
ALL ASPECTS OF ONE'S LIFE WITH GOD.
Life's circumstances change on a daily basis. Yes, in good ways an challenging ways. Taking time to give thanks and praise for the victories and the challenges is an acknowlegement of God's activity in our lives during both.
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NIV)
DAILY PRAYER GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO
EXPRESS GRATTITUDE FOR GOD'S PROVISION.
God's goodness and loving kindness to us should be recognized on a daily basis. So we pray on a daily basis to acknowledge God's faithfulness and daily provision in our lives.
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.
(Psalm 10:1 NIV)
DAILY PRAYER PROVIDES THE PLATFORM FOR
CONFESSION OF SIN.
Far too often Christians walk around with unconfessed sin that hinders us in our relationship with Jesus Christ, when we should daily submit ourselves and ask for forgiveness in prayer. And in doing so, God gives us the strength to repent, which means to turn from our sin
and live for God.
Then I acknowleded my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity...
and you forgave the guilt of my sin.
(Psalm 32:5 NIV)
DAILY PRAYER ACKNOWLEDGES WHO IS IN CONTROL OF OUR LIVES
As Christians, who KNOW who is really in control. God is sovereign and deserves our worship and praise. God is our great King and as such is in control of all things. So we should daily acknowledge God's proper place in our lives as our Lord and Salvation.
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
(1 Chronicles 29:11 NIV)
We have recently declared that at 1:14 pm each day we, as a church family, are praying together wherever we are. It stems from what we read in Acts 1:14 that after Jesus' return to the Father, the disciples "joined together constantly in prayer." Maybe you'd like to join us knowing that there are others praying with you each day!
SO WHERE DO I START?
Now we know that this does not explain everything and your first response might be, "But that doesn't tell me how to pray!" Jesus' disciples dealt with this same issue, so they asked Jesus to teach them to pray. So maybe just start with how Jesus taught them.
It's what we do each time we are together.
Pray in this way...
Our Father, which art in heaven
hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, the power,
and the glory forever.
It is important that you know you do not have to go on this journey alone.
